How You Can Help | Feeding Program
(MEBI orphanages, Creve
and Port-au-Prince)
The
rising cost of food prices in Haiti is an ever present threat
to the survival of its people. 80% of the 8.5 million Haitians
live under the poverty line and 54% live in abject poverty.
With 56% of Haitians living on less than $1 per day, there
is no way to afford the cost of soaring food prices. Reports
estimate that 3.3 million people are currently in need of
food support. News stories abound telling horrific tales
of impoverished Haitians increasingly having to resort to
eating baked mud cookies consisting of clay mixed with water
and salt to survive. Food prices have skyrocketed for several
reasons including flood and crop damages caused by the hurricanes
that have devastated the area. Food shortages have lead to
violent riots and deaths. It can cost over $2000 per month
to feed the orphanage children.
Any donation amount, small
or large, will be directly used to feed these starving children
and provide them with the proper nutrition they so desperately
need.
