How You Can Help | College Scholarships
Education
standards in Haiti are severely low and access is difficult,
even though an education is fundamental to addressing extreme
poverty. Many youth experience a feeling
of hopelessness and despair in looking towards their future,
as the statistics are alarming.
A startling 65% of primary
school-aged children are actually enrolled in school. At
the secondary level, the figure drops to around 20%. Only
1% of the population attends a university. Literacy rates
hover around a low 53%.
Most schools in Haiti do not receive
state support, thereby placing the burden of fees and book
costs on the parents. With food needs for children, parents
cannot often afford both food and school. With 80% of the
population living under the poverty line, few families can
afford even the cheapest of schools. By sponsoring a young
adult's college education, your gift will help offer them
hope for a future that can change them, their family and
their community. Would you please consider sponsoring $100
a month to help a teenager/young adult pursue a college
education?
